According to the CDC, “cigarette smoking is higher among people currently serving in the military than among the civilian population.” Among military veterans, 29.2% reported current tobacco use (within the past 30 days). While many veterans take advantage of VA benefits, others may not know where to go for support when they’re ready to quit using tobacco products.
HCCA partnered with Hart Consulting, Somerset Public Health and Portland Public Health to create materials and get the word out that, if veterans are ready to stop using tobacco products, there’s free support out there.
Working with Hart Consulting, HCCA staff took input from local focus groups of veterans to create and update posters and rack cards outlining available free resources, whether veterans take advantage of VA benefits or not.
