Part of living your healthiest life is enjoying fresh air and exercise. Two great, free ways to do that in Kennebec County are StoryWalks® and Little Free Libraries!
What is a StoryWalk®?
StoryWalk® is an innovative and delightful way for children — and adults! — to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time.
Laminated pages from a children’s book are attached to lawn signs with wire stakes installed along an outdoor path. As you stroll down the trail, you’re directed to the next page in the story.
You will often find HCCA’s mobile Storywalks® at community events! HCCA has also helped install several permanent Storywalks® in Kennebec County! Check them out at:
- Gardiner Regional Middle School
- Readfield Community Library
- Farrington School in Augusta
- Readfield Elementary School
- Ezra Smith Conservation Area Route 41 (Pond Road) Mt. Vernon
- Winthrop Grade School
What is a Little Free Library?
Little Free Libraries offer free books to communities, and are great places to donate some of your recent reads! You may find them by chance while out on a walk, but there’s also a free Little Free Library app that can connect with the GPS in your phone and help you find new ones!
